Of Little Things
There is a saying in Hindi, "यहाँ वहाँ की बातें ", I guess, this statement aptly describes this post for the time being. For a long time, I had been wondering what to write about. Not that I had hit a writer's block but still I wasn't convinced enough to turn a speck of thought into a full fledged blog. Now, when I had a little too many of these tiny speks, I felt that the time was right to give it a vent. "Vent" itself would be a wrong word to use since these thoughts are not agonizing. They are just, well, thoughts, that creep in your mind at any given time of the day or night. You might giggle, snigger, worry or laugh at them but they are thought provoking nevertheless.
Ok, lets start with umm, cold coffee? Yes, your regular mundane mug or glass of cold coffee for which I have a new found respect. There is nothing better than drowning one at the end of a hot exhausting day. I like mine with not even a single crystal of sugar, just a bit of ice and good old toned milk shaken up with coffee powder. The way I am describing this might make it sound like a gourmet beverage, but when it comes to a tall glass of cold coffee with drops of condensed water trickling down its rather curvaceous structure, simplicity is the keyword.
What else next? Online shopping! Now, there was a time when shopping meant visiting your friendly ( I really don't understand, why do we always have to refer our neighborhood joints or merchants as "friendly" ! Its not that those in the malls are particularly vicious!) shops, choosing an article from the showcases or querying about them, paying after a little display of bargaining skills and simply trudging for the next shop. It wasn't thrilling to bits and at times, it seemed more like a chore rather than a source of excitement and pleasure that shopping is supposed to be. And God save you from the looks of the shopkeeper after spending close to forty five minutes in a shop without as much opening your purse. Well, you won't be exactly blocked from the market, but rest assured you would have entered the hallowed portals of 'Time Wasting Customers' ! And this is precisely the reason that I prefer online shopping! Endless browsing through different categories and products, comparing every tiny little detail to the heart's content and yet, simply close the browser, if you just don't feel like buying! Yes, online shopping is the new e-mecca for just about anything (ok, not everything, I can't imagine ordering for a bulb online and then appreciate the beauty of darkness for the next two to three days until the parcel finally arrives) that catches your fancy. Not to mention the fabulous discounts one receives online that otherwise would have gone in the oily palms of a shopkeeper had the product been purchased from a shop.Everyday I find myself loitering around the dropdown menus of say, mobiles, books and face washes just for the heck of it. Its plain fun to see exotic book titles and jazzy gadgets within the privacy of my PC and without the glare of expectant eyes of the shop attendant. With many more categories of products being added to all new shopping websites, loosening the purse strings had never been this convenient. The only drawback ? Its not instant nirvana and your ordered bliss might take a week to arrive at your esteemed address. Win some, lose some!
And, I haven't even started about the joys of Wi-Fi. When I first read the word 'Wi-Fi' somewhere, my first thought was that of a spelling mistake. "Surely, the author must have meant Hi-Fi!". But as I discovered, if there was a saviour from the shackles of ethernet cables, it was Wireless Fidelity or Wi-Fi! Trust this word to bring a smile to internet deprived souls, hunting for a network just to see the number of likes for their cleverly crafted status message. For someone who is well acquainted with slower-than-a-snail dial up connections, Wi-Fi is akin to giving a business class ticket to a bullock rider. Smartphones become truly smart, laptops rediscover the meaning of being portable and your neighbors finally warm up to you just because of these two magical words. Simply put, every room of your house becomes well endowed with a network that is omnipresent and ubiquitous for being a doorway to the internet. No more assigning a veritable designated position for accessing internet on your ethernet enabled internet device, just move around like a dove and sure, your network will follow you more loyally than a puppy.
